Description

SV356 — Nelson Dionne Collection. View of a triumphal arch, festooned with American flags, constructed for the centennial celebration on July 4, 1876, at the end of the North Bridge going into North Salem. The arch commemorates the event of "Leslie's Retreat," on February 26, 1775, in North Salem at this location. Most of the buildings in view are non-extant today.

The descriptor states as follows: "Salem, Mass.—North Bridge, the scene of Leslie's retreat." While published by Miller & Best of Boston, the picture on this card is identical to the one taken and published by Salem photographers J.W. & J.S. Moulton (SV355).
