Per Stephen P. Hall on the Salem History Exchange: "I would suggest the photo posted was taken circa 1869 +/- three years. The 'rounded template' used to mask the top of the image is of a later stereoview design, and dates to 1880s publishing or later. I think this was a photo of someone's family and home, that 'didn't make the cut,' and the client declined to buy prints of it, because of the back and side views of the subjects... Probably not a view of Salem, MA."
