Description

SV224 — Nelson Dionne Collection. View of the Shepard Mansion at 61 and 63 Lafayette Street (today 183 and 185 Lafayette Street due to street renumbering). A group of people, ostensibly the Shepard family, are visible posing in front of the home.

Published by photographers J.W. & J.S. Moulton at 256 Essex Street, Salem, Mass., in "American Scenery," c. 1874-76.

According to the directories and atlases, the home was owned and occupied by a member of the family until 1914, when the house was destroyed by the great fire of Salem.

This depicted place was adjacent to the Buffum House depicted in SV018.
