In 1986, the Lady Vikings basketball team at Salem State College won the NCAA DIII Championship. 30 years later, Salem State students interviewed some key players from the team about their experiences. This is a short documentary reflecting on the 1986 season.
Three-time All American guard, and New England Player of the Year Evelyn Oquendo, lead Salem State College past Bishop College of Dallas, Texas, 89-85 to win NCAA Division III title March 15, 1986 at the O'Keefe Center at SSC in Salem, MA. Salem State finished with a program best 29-1 record. The Vikings overcame an early 12-point deficit to earn the school's first national championship. Mary Dee Brown, National Championship team captain and Kodak All American, is named Salem State's first CoSida Academic All American.
The Lady Vikings of Salem State College (Salem, MA) defeated Rust College (Holly Springs, MS) in the NCAA DIII semi-finals on March 14, 1986 at Salem State's O'Keefe Center with a final score of 67-59.
